video playback during capture

video playback during capture
May 16, 2007 05:28PM
This may seem like a really basic question, but I'm stumpted. I am currently capturing footage on an FCP 5.1.4 system with no playback monitor. When I capture footage, I just get a black window on my screen. Does anybody know how to get the capture to play on my computer screen so I can watch my material as I'm capturing?

<<<I just get a black window on my screen.>>>

Does it actually capture, just so we're solving the right problem?

Yes, it captures just fine. Also, for the record, I'm capturing HD using the BlackMagic 1080 p 23.97 DVCPRO HD setting.

<<<I'm capturing HD>>>

Someone else will jump in, but just based on the fact that this screen never fails under normal circumstances, I can conclude that it's supposed to be that way.

The default for standard definition captures is for the capture window to show you about eight to ten frames per second video and no audio. Yes, you can force the system to give you audio, but it's roundly considered a bad idea.

Therefore, I would not be shocked to find out that the capture screen finally threw in the towel and doesn't show you anything during live HiDef capture in order to devote as much energy and talent as possible to the actual show.
