I think so. Right now, I can't even import a Photoshop layer into AE. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

Open the HELP files in After Effects (hit the F1 key) & look up "Preparing & Importing footage / Importing Photoshop, Illustraor, PDF and EPS files". It's all there in the HELP files.

Id start with creative cow.
They are generally very basic.
The list Joe supplied above is a great start.

There are also a few books, a good example is :"After Effects in production".
I'm sure there are many more.
