<HTML>I'm thinking of using the "economy" model of the new powerbook for FCP 1.25.

Is this a feasible thing to do. I plan to do a feature on it using a sony dvc 2000 and a secondary large drive.

Is the 400 fast enough?

<HTML>Sure it's fast enough but is it the economical choice? That is the question. Add in your extra Ram and HD etc and see if you get close to the price of the higher end TiBooks. If you do, consider going up. Also you might wait until after next week to see if Apple is going to release any new books that might drop the price of the current line.
