no audio after digitizing...

Hi out there!
Editing on FCP 5.1.4 on a G-5

I digitized a bunch of footage, sounded fine.
Time to edit, no sound... I can see sound on the meters, but can't hear it with or without head phones; the speakers have been removed...
Very frustrating, I know it has to be something simple. ( I hope)
It's not my computer, the person who set it up no longer works here (I jumped in to edit something fast--ha ha!)
Any help is much appreciated!

If you're trying to hear sound from the computer, you have to watch the images on the computer as well. Turn off External Playback (APPLE-F12). If you want to watch the footage on an external monitor, then get your sound from whatever device is between the monitor and the computer (eg. a deck, a mixing board, a capture card).

Goodness, he's right!

The picture and sound try to follow each other in order to maintain sync. If you send the picture out to an external monitor, the sound will go out there, too and the speakers and headphones on the Mac will stop.
