Trying to resolve audio crackle by changing sequence presets.

I have a G5, OS X 10.4.10, with Final Cut 6. In a previous project, I had issues with audio crackling and found that someone had reset our camera to 32K audio. I reset the camera to 48K. However, when I digitized 48 K footage from a subsequent shoot (new project), I still had crackling. The 48K audio rate matches, but my "Aud Format" column in the browser states 32-bit floating point for the sequence, while all my footage is 16-bit Integer. All of my settings are on the preset DV-NTSC format, but new sequences (in this project as well as any new project or sequence I open) pop up as 32-bit floating point. How do I change this? Do I need to change this? I'm very willing to start over and re-digitize if needed.

Don't worry at the 32-bit float.

Where do you hear the crackling? I assume not on the original tape when monitored with headphones during playback. How are you monitoring the playback in FCP?

Crackling should go away once you render the audio. Do an Audio Mix Down and then listen.

I am monitoring through my Apple. The crackling appears in the clip when played on the viewer, canvas, or timeline. When I listen to the tape directly, there's no crackling. When I re-digitize the tape, the crackling sometimes appears in the same place, sometimes in a different place.

I've tried checking the firewire connections, and changing the cables.

I nested and mixed down, but I still have the crackle.
