Importing different formats (including HD) into one mini-DV sequence.

I have DVC PRO 100 footage sitting on a G-Raid drive and I also have lots of regular mini-dv footage sitting on another drive. I want to take clips from both and make a montage on one sequence.

I obviously want to downgrade the high bt rate footage and work from a DV base. How do I/what's the easiest way to import my HD footage into a DV sequence and begin editing?

Dan

I have FCP 4.5

Also, I only have one firewire cable so is there anyway to accomplish this task by using the one chord at different times for each of my hard drives?

well, tackle the last issue first, 1 cord is going to cause you trouble.

I would transfer data from one drive to your comp, for temp storage, than transfer to the other drive.Or you could go out and spend 5 bucks and get another cable (always good to have more) .

ok onto the second part (well first i supose) It is just as easy as dragging and dropping into the sequence. Just brace yourself for the render. The other option is to export all your footage as dv and bring them in on the same level and get rid of that render.

if i'm too lazy to go get another cable right now (which i am), and therefore can't just drag and drop, can i just export the HD clips (from one drive--onto my desktop) as full res quick-time files then import those files into my DV montage sequence?

since i dont

B) how do you export footage as DV--is that the same as exporting as a full res quick time file?

Yes you can

and as for how you would export them, I recomend setting up a droplet in compressor for it.
