Canvas is not resizing video

Hey lateniters,

Got a fun one.

I have a timeline with mixed formats.

When I look at the timeline in the canvas, I am trying to resize some of the clips with the wireframe in the canvas to match the rest of the sequence.

But when I resize the wireframe, the frame size doesn't change. If i go back to the timeline nothing has changed, no need to render because the frame size hasn't changed.

I have also tried opening clips in the viewer and hitting the 'motion' tab and using the "scale" toggle to change size. When I do that, it resizes the frame inside the viewer, but not in the canvas.

I'm lost on this one.



A little Background:

I just got my drives and project back from an editor. Before I gave it to the editor, I didn't have this problem. Editor was running 5.1 on a Macbook Pro.

I'm running FCP 5.1 (On a Powerpc G5).

Have recently tried trashing preferences, but after trashing preferences, FCP would crash my system upon FCP startup.

Are you sure you're adjusting the clip you're looking at? It's easy to get confused about the clip that you're working on, so, as a test, put your playhead over the clip you want to adjust. Then double click it to load it into the viewer. Then make the adjustments. You should be able to see the video adjusting in the canvas as you do so. Then check the timeline version.

Yeah I wish it was working but it's not resizing in the canvas. It resizes in the viewer fine, but no changes are made to the clip, no changes are seen in the canvas.

Hmm. OK. Another test. Close the project. Open a new project. make a new sequence, import the same clip. Drop it on the timeline. See if it works there or not.

If yes, possible corrupt project, if no, possibly time to trash preferences.

I have had similar problems a few times with some footage in the past.
Try resizing and then render it out from FCP and check the rendered file.

Hmm.

If I open a new project and import the clip, it resizes fine with wireframe.

Does this mean I have a bad project file?

If so, can I just copy all of my sequences/bins/etc into a new project?

It gets weirder.

I opened some other sequences in the project. Some (mostly earlier versions of the same sequence) had the problem.

Most of the other sequences are fine though.

Sure do. Just migrate everything to a new project file with matching settings. Everything currently points to project-file corruption.

Thanks, I started a new project and had to start a new sequence in the project, copied everthing from the old sequence to the new.

I think you had one of the weirdest symptoms I've ever seen for a corruption. That's why we didn't suspect it at first.
