you could try a magnifying app:

[www.old-jewel.com]

but that would disable your mouse as this one at least works by you magnifying hat your cursor is parked near.

The only timecode display app I know of is Digital Heaven's BIGTIME, which is a playback plugin.
Don't think it hooks into incoming code -- but it's a great feature request. Pass it on.
