i am capturing dv in fcp 5.1.4.

Every reel i have captured is breaking up into pieces ranging from 6secs to 22min ( no pattern ).

I am being allowed to give multiple files in the browser the same exact name without any appendages.

footage looks fine. There are 10 reels i have captured 6 and they have broken themselves down into 19 reels.

What is going on here?

You probably have a setting ticked that separates your capture into different clips on timecode breaks.

So the separation apepars when there is a brake in your timecode.
These breaks can also happen if the drive you are capturing to is too slow.

"I am being allowed to give multiple files in the browser the same exact name without any appendages. "

the browser behaviour isn't like finder behaviour as far as names go.

and it;s probably not a great idea to have different clips with the same name.
i take it you are changing them back?

are the clip names incremented before you re-name them?
reel numbers incrementing?
that's a sure sign of TC break behaviour.

yes the clips i have do come in with numerically incremented. I sat and watched a capture from beginning to end and yes it does look like timecode breaks. In fact the tape came out of a camera that is being serviced for an s_reel lock problem.

This anomaly could be a result of a progressive problem with the cam previous to it giving me the s_reel error. I have seen TC breaks before but never in this multitude which thru me off.

I am sure its not drive speed i have all 7200rpm drives and this one is esata 16mb buffer.
