pro res or hdv on macbook pro

hey what do you guys think would give me better performance for editing on a macbookpro, hdv or hdv converted to pro res. i would use either firewire 800 or esata on both just want to know which will work more smoothly when start to makes cuts and transitions. I have tried hdv with a firewire 400 drive and its not bad but do get render bars.
