I'm considering using a DSR-80 Deck and i was wondering- is QSDI connection equivalent to a firewire connection? Or is there a compromise in image quality?

No, it isn't equivalent. Firewire is a pure data transfer, no loss of quality at all. And the only way you can connect to this deck is with a capture card. Not sure how you would interface with the QSDI, or if you'd want to. Never heard of this connection before. BUT, it looks like a BNC, not a firewire or iLink or IEEE-3394...so you'll need that capture card.

Looks like there is NO way to add an optional Firewire port either.

Ah well, at least with this you can get frame accurate captures and outputs.

I was thinking of sending that into my decklink card, then setting the capture codec to dv. I've never heard of QSDI prior to this deck before, so I was wondering if it works in a similar manner.

Nevermind... just checked that my decklink card doesn't support SDTI (QSDI). QSDI is a compressed sdi signal, developed by sony (amongst their multitude of products). It's crazy, all these new fangled devices popping up all the time- there's hardly any info on it online.
