Project will not open with FCS 2 same version
December 16, 2007 08:41AM
I am unable to open projects on my MacBook Pro that were edited with FCS 2 vers. 6.02 on XSAN FCS. Both have the same version program and OSX. I originated the project on my MacBook Pro and am now not able to use it. I will be going on location for reshoots and need to be able to edit with old and new material on the MacBook Pro. Help! The application either just quits or crashes with this notice :

I'm not sure what the problem is, but this is an FCP editors forum. I doubt many if any here are going to be able to make heads or tails of the lines of code you're pasting in your email.

LOL. Can't understand the error report... but you can't open it from a saved file from another machine? It is possible it's a corrupted file, try resaving it. Your next option is an xml import/export.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I thought maybe someone else had gotten the same report. Perhaps it was excessive. Anyway, I think I've found the culprit. A faulty jump drive was corrupting the files. I'm about to check it out with the big computer. I'll let you know the outcome. Best-Robin

Possible, but there could be a simpler explanation. If that jump drive (USB, I presume) was PC-formatted, then your project files may have lost their extension. A fairly common occurrence when you put an FCP project file through a PC medium or the internet. Add the .fcp extension back by hand and see if that works. Or, use only a Mac-formatted USB flash stick or FireWire drive for the transfer.

One other thing to add to Derek's post. In the future, it's safest to transfer FCP projects from place to place by zipping them up first. Select the project file, right-click and select Archive. Then you'll not have problems transferring them by whatever means you fancy.

What was strange, was trying to export a font file once- no matter how i zipped it, it always came out as a 0kb file when opened on the other end. Think i tried CDr, dvdr, zipped, unzipped, yousendit, gmail...
