Final Cut Pro doesn't seem to want to transfer the footage except at 1440. I thought 6.0.2 is supposed to support full 1080p from AVCHD cameras? Footage was shot at 1920x1080 24p.

Am I missing something here? I've tried all sorts of A/V presets. When I use Log and Transfer, it creates 1440 quicktimes.

1440 is the correct size. The image has its aspect ratio squeezed for compression purposes, but it displays as 1920.

But the HG10 has a full 1920x1080 sensor... why would it be 1440?

To compress it. How do you think they get the file sizes down to such incredibly small sizes for HD material? It has to be compressed, a lot. One way is to reduce the image width by compressing the aspect ratio.

Common wisdom says this, Tom. But this particular model does record a nominal 1920x1080 grid.
Of course, go tell people that there's no way this 1920x1080 grid is fed with 1920x1080 actual, unique bits of information (you'd be lucky with half that much!)
