OT: Get a High Quality UPS

Unbelievable bad luck on my FCP system.
My consumer quality UPS decided to fail during a
brownout; and it wiped out one of my HMV u320
raid drives (Huge Systems)
I was able to remount and scavenge as much info
back using DISK WARRIOR 4; which is great for
such data crises.

The moral of the story...
Get yourself a military of high-end industrial UPS
(it's on order).
Don't have 2 or 3 in-progress video projects
compromised because of a low quality UPS.


Oh I have some specs if you are interested
for estimating power comsumption

A Mac G5 Dual 2.5G draws about 300W at bootup
One 1.2TB Huge System Drive draws 150W per box.

So we are going with a 950W system which gives us
300W for the mac and 300W for our two HMV 320s drives.

I am doing this off-topic message as a public service.
Don't get burnt for data because of a brown-out.
Spend the bucks on a good quailty UPS.
I learned this the hard way!!!!!

Wow Mark, that sucks. So very sorry and thanks for this. I must say I find Data Rescue to be a bit of a miracle when things like this happen. It works as long as you dont try anything before you try Data Rescue.
