Your thoughts on shuttling tapes for before print to video?

I'm using sony dv cam tapes.

You mean winding them down and back before mastering? I've never done done it nor felt I had to. DVCAM is DV done right-- good speed avoids dropouts, decent lube, locked audio, DF or NDF, etc.

Thanx Loren,

That was my thought, but I had one lock up on me last week and I wondered if I should do the "winding forward then back" before dubbing thing.

Do it as necessary. I had a series of about 15 tapes two weeks ago that had this same problem. Head cleaners didn't help. The tapes were probably loose in the spool and dusty from having been stored too long. There's no harm in the wind-forward-wind-back as long as the tapes don't jumble up in the deck. But it's rare that healthy, recently shot tapes from healthy cameras would have this issue. Also, it would help if the tapes had been rewound all the way for storage.
