Music from late 60's

I plan to shoot a 45 minute film for the film festivals and use music from the late 1960's.

I need full music clearance rights (for broadcast and/or cable TV) , and not just festival only rights.

Does anyone know where I can get clearance rights without paying a 5 or 6 digit figure?

Well, if the music you pick isn't very popular, or has somehow fallen into public domain, then you can do it. But if you're trying to get The Beatles or The Supremes, forget it. I had a colleague once who knew one of the writers of a certain Elvis song, and he'd told her that a one-year festival-only license, even with his help, would be $100,000. And unfortunately in your case, if you're trying to use music for the zeitgeist, the super-obscure stuff probably wouldn't work.

I'd look into finding a composer who can do versions of '60s songs with a '60s vibe so you at least don't have to pay master rights, only sync rights.

Yeah, or you can get a Sound-alike artist to compose some stuff, or wait until about 2030 when it falls out of copyright. Otherwise, the starving publishers need the dosh to upgrade their luxury liners.

There is quite a bit out there that you can license, but as Derek mentioned, it wont be The Beatles.
You'd be surprised though - some of it is well known and good.
I had a library in my old office in Australia with famous 60s tracks you could buy.

I know how to do it in Australia but I have no clue for US.
