Using FCP 5.1.4, can I upgrade to Motion 3 only?Posted by raf622
Hi, and thanks in advance for any help.
I'm on a new Macbook Pro Intel, OSX 10.4.11, 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB, 667 MHz, Quicktime 7 Pro (7.2). I'm working with FCP Studio 1 (FCP 5.1.4, Motion 2, etc), and I bought the FCP 2 upgrade, but I'm a little concerned about upgrading the entire studio to 2, since I'm in the middle of a (small) project, and I've read some problems with QT 7.3. My question is, do you recommend upgrading ONLY to Motion 3? I really want to learn and use it. If I can, must I upgrade to QT Pro 7.3 or can I stay in 7.2? Thanks so much, Richard
I know this is not a direct answer to you question, but why not install the entire package on a NEW hard drive? Drives are pretty cheap these days. If you do a clean install of the OS and FCS2 on a new drive you could learn and experiment, then switch to your old drive to work on projects still in progress. When you are comfortable with the new programs, you can start new projects on the new drive, and even copy the old projects over when the time is right. Your old drive becomes your security blanket with the previous setup.
