targeting employers

Hi all,

I am wondering how to go about getting work or an internship with specific tv shows or editors whose credits I admire (envy?).

I am a big fan of HBO shows like "The Wire," and currently, "In Treatment." I have looked at the imdb for both shows and I am wondering if it's kosher to try and get the contact info to some of the editors listed there and inquire about an internship/job.

Is there another, better way? How can I be more active about my career track rather than just waiting for whatever pops up on Craigslist or Mandy? So far I've had great luck, but I think my career planning could benefit from a little strategy too.
