Hi--

We are looking to purchase a 2.5 Terabyte drive to digitize all our tapes onto. (firewire connection) What have you used before? How did you like it?

I've put together some RAIDS w/ FW800 using external cases from Other World Computing www.macsales.com and a couple of 7200 RPM drives. I like Seagate drives. But I like LaCie drives. I'd go eSATA if you can, but FW800 works well. FW400 drives result in dropped frames, at least that's my experience.

What format are you digitizing (DV / Uncompressed 10-bit SD / HDV / DVCPRO-HD / Uncompressed HD)? Big difference in throughput / storage requirements for each.

We are digitizing DVC Pro HD

2.5 TB is a large RAID. I would have recommended the 5-bay eSATA S2VR HD by Caldigit, but it's discontinued. You can get up to 2 TB (and 3 DVCPRO HD streams) from their FirewireVR:

I recommend you get a FW800 card to run it from a PCIe slot & keep the motherboard bus open.

what about wiebetech? (http://www.wiebetech.com/)

i loved the idea of a trayless system, but haven't tested it yet.
