Why do bits of audio bleed through on my music tracks even after I've selected their mute buttons in audio controls?

Your timeline or music clips could be remembering old render files. Try turning that music clip off and then back on (CONTROL-B twice). Also, are you sure you're clicking on the right button?

Didn't seem to help. Specifically, here's what happens: I try playing the section I wish to hear without music using the mute buttons on the music tracks. As the playhead encounters a new track layer -- a fill track in this case -- the music bleeds through at that point. A similar problem occurs if I try to play that fill track by itself using the solo buttons; music (and even dialogue!) bleeds through on playback.

Then try this: When you want to mute the music, select it and press CONTROL-B (Clip Disable). when you want it back, select it again and press CONTROL-B again (toggle - Clip Enable). This method is a lot faster and costs you less render files, because you don't have to turn off music clips that are on the same tracks down the timeline. Also, there's a shortcut, and also you can simply Undo it or Redo it.

You're not kidding. I discovered this on my own while awaiting a reply, and it seemed so obvious, I figured there had to be something wrong with it. Instead, it solved the problem perfectly. It makes me wonder why they've even got mute buttons in the first place, as they not only have performance and rendering issues, but seem to be redundant and thus confusing. Many thanks.

I rarely use the mute/solo buttons. The track disable button should work well, though.
