audio levels jump on cuts

After keyframing a music track to blend with narration & FX, it doesn't play through at the right volume, even after rendering. Instead, I get bursts of loudness and other sudden changes in audio levels as the playhead encounters various cut points. What's going on here?

I had my real-time mixing preferences set too low -- 4 tracks instead of 8.

I wonder if doing an audio mixdown would have solved this without changing the track preferences.

I have imported clips from a CD placed it on an audio track without adding keyframes or edits and the music will suddenly change volume and other changes in the audio. I did not see anything in the bug report. What's up with this?

Did you match the sample rate, bit depth etc. to your timeline?

Oh yeah, and what file format did you extract the CD tracks as? MP3s are an absolute no-no in Final Cut Pro.
