Virtual Clusters not working

Virtual Clusters not working
April 11, 2008 03:33PM
After having problems with Compressor, and to a slight extent FCP. I re-installed everything on my computer from scratch. I opened final cut and made one successful export through compressor using a virtual cluster (I have an 8 core 2.8 Mac PRO). Since then, everytime I submit a batch, choose the virtual cluster and submit. The batch either goes no where or stalls mid way through, if I move the cursor over final cut, the spinning pinwheel shows up, and half the time final cut stops responding. I've tried trashing both compressor and FCP preferences and restarting and that doesn't help. I've also re-installed FCP Studio twice (along with software updates) with no improvement. Any suggestions or feedback is greatly appreciated.

were you able to export from FCP via Compressor before, accessing the clusters???

apparently that cant work,
as the system looks for an FCP licence in all the virtual spaces.

try exporting from FCP as a QuickTime Movie (non-self contained will work)
and run that thru compressor.

You can't use a virtual cluster exporting from FCP using Compressor. You must export a QT Movie and bring that into Compressor (totally independent of FCP). The virtual cluster will look for multiple licenses of FCP if you send it out of Final Cut to Compressor.

Thanks guys totally forgot about the quicktime export step. I guess staring at the editing station for 10+ hours can take a toll on your mental prowess.

I dont know a single user who doesnt have issues with Compressor. And now, after attempting to "uninstall" and re-install Compressor 3 because of issues, and after the latest updates in QT and ProApps, I'm getting so much buggy stuttering and stalling in FCP clips that I am now going to erase the entire boot drive and install everything from scratch.

Just re-installing FCS2 was not enough.

There goes Saturday. sad smiley
