You could also stack these 50 clips in 50 tracks (!) and apply the same Speed to all at once. I don;t say you*should*-- only that you can.
The reason you can't do it linearly is because you'll change the duration of your sequence. When I want to speed change one clip, I cut it form the sequence, leave a Marker, nav to the tail of the sequence, Paste the clip, make the speed change, cut the changed clip, back to Marker, and paste it in a clip overhead if it needs to be fitted to cover the void or overwrite into the void if it's big enough.
