Transferring Project from 4.5HD to 5.1

I have a feature length documentary that I want to open up in 5.1 - I have heard conflicting reports- yes and no. If I make a duplicate of the file and open it in 5.1 will I have trouble?

If you've backed up your project file to a safe place, that will cover you in terms of the project file. The software upgrade, if there is one, could cause issues with the computer, but your backup project file will remain intact and can be opened in FCP4.5 still.
