Good shared Local Storage?

I'm on a SAN now but moving my team to a new off-site location. I want to get some local storage (3-5TBs) for us to work off and then back up nightly over AFP to our SAN. What storage solutions for multiple editors are people out there using?

I looked at EditShare which was pretty sweet, Unity stlye project sharing but i know its gonna be expensive. G-Techs G-speed looks interesting, fibre on the box, looks affordable. Apple's Promise Raids aint cheap either tho I might be able to get an old X-Raid pulled back out of the server room for us to edit from but its only ethernet and we're editing three streams of 1080p DVCProHD. Our current ethernet stutters with those streams but if we were on our own network, shouldn't ethernet be able to handle that? Is anyone editing a lot of 1080p over gigabit?
