OT: RIP George Carlin...
June 23, 2008 08:56PM
This is a sad day. He was the best. He was the anti-institution institution. He was the funniest SOB I ever heard when I was a kid. He changed people's thinking. He will be sorely missed.

He's probably having a beer & a bone with St. Peter right now smileys with beer smoking smiley

Rest in peace.

Here is a sample of his genius (rough language warning):

When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.

He was the best kind of communicator - a truth teller.

Remember in the 70's way back in junior high school - we all memorized his routines...the "hair" poem - the seven dirty words - He was a BS annihilator - the kind of things most creative folks would say to themselves but never say out loud. He'd yell it from the rafters

one of my favorite Carlin-isms "why do they lock gas station bathrooms? Are they afraid someone will come in and try to clean it?"

The truth tellers today live on the Daily Show and HBO's Real Time....sadly not on many...or any of the mainstream network programs.

I came across a clip of this guy on for the first time internet about a month ago. I thought he was a great advocate for the enrichment of the english language. Sorry to hear he's no longer with us.

A mere youngster compared to Dave Broadfoot (the hororable member of parlement for Kicking Horse Pass) who is 83 & one of the
funniest men on the plannet.

Also, let's take a moment to remember the venerable character actress & comedian, Dody Goodman, who's appearances in the Grease films and as a regular on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman brought me to tears in laughter...

Agreed...even these days he was cutting edge funny and has been since I can remember which was the early seventies. What a downer...with so much unfunny stuff in this world great comics are like barometers testing the water. Again..what a downer Joe.
