How to learn to color correct?Posted by Gregory O'Toole
Hey everyone!
So I have done a good bit of work color correcting things, but am by no means an expert. I learned the most the day I sat in on a coloring session with a true colorist and asked a lot of question. On my current project, however, I am going to do all the grading. It will be distributed via dvd. I plan on grading it FCP and not Color. Does anyone have any recommendations for good articles, books, or training DVD's that will help me understand some of the fundamentals of professionally color grading things? Thanks! greg
Advanced Color Correction book...I love this book:
[www.amazon.com] Ripple Training has a great DVD on how to use the 3-way as well: [www.rippletraining.com] I have both and they are really good fundamentals. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]

Andrew Balis's DVD for ripple training Colour Correction in FCP is superb. I used that alongside the Van Hurkman Advanced peachpitt book. Great combination. Haven't got the Encyclopedia yet, but since Color turned up i doubt i'll bother. The Peachpitt book for Color is basic, simple to use, and is a great intro to the fantastic program.
