I have brought in Photoshop files to FCP hundreds of times with an Alpha channel background. Today, for some reason, when I bring in text with an alpha channel background into FCP, the text has a solid black block in back of the lettering. When I open Photoshop and look at the document, it is clean, with no black in the background. The black appears as a solid block barely extending to the outside of the letters. I didn't make any settings changes in FCP ... did I ... by accident?

Was the text first rasterized (made into a bitmap) or left vector (editable font) in Photoshop? I have no problem with PS text brought in after rasterizing the layer.

To rasterize PS typography, go to the Layers palette menu for the option.

Also check that your alpha settings are correct in FCP. It's under Modify > Alpha Type.
