can't fix frame size

Other than fixing it in MOTION, isn't there a way to bring in an "unsqueezed" Quick-time movie that was shot in 16:9 and copied to disc as a .mov file? The clip plays in a 4:3 aspect ratio, whether I view off the disc or import into FCP after saving it to a folder containing my other media clips. Curiously, the thumbnail is letterboxed (probably to the very proportions the clip itself should appear in), but I can't find any settings that recognize the native anamorphic.
