I'm starting a project that was shot 720p DVCPROHD on varicam and we are capturing using the Panasonic 1200 deck via firewire. Right now when we capture, we are getting 8 tracks of audio, but only channels 1 and 2 repeated into 3/4 5/6 and 7/8. Is firewire capable of transferring the audio straight across?

Yes, FW should be able to carry all 8 channels into your mac. Do you actually have 8 discrete tracks of recording?
