Media not reconnecting

So I've got a project that houses all our dailies, merged, and multiclips. When I open the project it comes up with something like 4,000 files that are media offline. I hit reconnect it finds some files and are able to reconnect them but some of the files have completely lost the relationship to the media so when I go to reconnect the file in the reconnect window it has a destination listed but the clip name is not listed. Ok fine I go to "locate" and manually choose the file. It relinks. I save. Quit. Come in the next day and everything that I reconnected from the day before is not connected. I sign and shake my head.

Ok the stats
Project was shot on the Red camera and the clip names were changed in FCP from the original red generated names. (could pose a problem)

We are not cutting the proxy files, we created apple pro res and are using those.

Also edit bay was moved from Canada to the US recently and we had some real problems getting it back up. I was getting that green screen in the viewer when I played the clips, but that was fixed. Had some problems with the drives, some of them got nudged out of the encasing during shipping.

upgrade to 6.04.

sounds like a big project, so you may have been avoiding that,
but from memory there were reconnect bugs in 6.0 (more than usual, anyway)

Yes - one of the biggest problems with FCP 6 was the reconnect bug, especially upgrading projects from earlier versions. I'm pretty sure the upgrade fixed it too. Should be free online.
