client has Sharp Hi 8 mm camera (VL-A110U) and tape. she wants it burned to DVD. how do i capture it? thanx.

There are Digital 8mm cameras that play HI8 and Digital 8 -- you can either pick one cheaply on EBAY or try to borrow one -- they have firewire out...will playback HI 8 and record Digital 8 -- about 350 on Amazon --

or you can get an analog to DV converter (even cheaper) about 199 - Canopus and others make them

Bring in through FCP -- make a movie -- or take the raw footage - bring in to DVD Studio Pro or Imovie - and you've got your DVD

If you have a stand alone DVD burner that accepts analog in - go right from his camera into the DVD burner and burn real time

One minor amplification on Andy's post - (I wave a tentacle at Andy):

If you go with a converter or DV camera to do the conversion , use SVHS (if possible) for the video.

No...I wouldn't post a link to something I was bidding on - THAT'S A SECRET! Just trying to illustrate how cheap they are and they can be found on ebay. I bought one 16 months ago on Ebay for $128.00. Just type in the model number in the Ebay search and find more. Any one of those Sony Hi8 / Digital8 models with the firewire / UBS port will work.
