what's this left arrow move command called?Posted by jwilliam
I really want to map a "step one frame back" and "step one frame forward" command to my keyboard, because my old AVID habits are hard to break.
However, I can't find them in the list of keyboard buttons... What does FCP call this? I've searched that button list for "back", "frame", "previous", "move", and about 5 other things and can't find it. Any thoughts?
That's strange, didn't you just tell us what the key command was?
Left Arrow moves one frame back, Right Arrow moves one frame forward. I guess what you mean is that you want to change the keystrokes to something else. I guess what threw you off is that even in Keyboard Layout - Customize (OPTION-H), the commands are simply referred to as "Left" and "Right". So search for those. Or, even easier, just drag those two away from the Left/Right Arrow keys on the keyboard layout, and onto the keys you want. www.derekmok.com

Also, Left Arrow can't be reassigned to something else, but you can drag the function to another free key and make that keystroke do the same thing. Within Keyboard Layout - Customize, to find out what a key's function is, just put the cursor over it for a few seconds and the name will pop up. www.derekmok.com
you can also use K+L to jog 1fr fwd,
and K+J to job 1fr backwards. but arrows seem a lot easier to me. the lock on the keyboard layout gets me every time! but here's a tip: the button window and the keyboard window are interchangeable. you can use both to do exactly the same thing. Button window doesn't have the graphic interface, but it also doesn't have the lock. saves you valuable seconds every day! nm
