i keep wondering if i would get cleaner footage from a consumer hd cam than say my dvx100b.

I wonder if it is even something i should consider. I believe that the ccd is 1/4 so that would hurt my luma and chroma values.

what are you guys experience with the consumer hd?

First you got 3 CCD on your DVX100B, probably just 1 on that consumer cam, so that might be a hint.

A cheap image that is larger is still cheap. A small image with better sensors is better.

Exactly what Shane says.

I think the question here should ask "What are you shooting for"? The latest of the smallish HDV-AVCHD-print to disc or memory card cameras are pretty amazing. Editning that stuff is more problematic than standard DV-HDV-DVCPRO codecs, but for some needs, can be very helpful.

But as everyone says, If you want a really usefully good picture, then that's what 3 chip cameras are for.

panasonic makes a consumer 3ccd hd camera.
They also have this 3mos thingy that i have not heard of and unsure how it compares to 3ccd.
also I have never seen a panasonic cam without leica lens or 3chip.

i think you want that Panasonic camera!

i wouldn't think of buying a new camera that wasn't HD of some sort or another,
nor one that was not able to produce a decent image.

Sounds like cmos has a bit more testing to do. CCD seems to be more flexible but less durable.
