most stable version of OS 10.4 & quicktime with FCS2??
August 26, 2008 06:39PM
I just did a reinstall of original OS 10.4.9 and am about to reinstal my final cut studio software. Should I upgrade to 10.4.? and a newer version of quick time? (currently 7.5.1)

I had been previously using 10.4.10 and a newer version of quicktime and having some issues which caused me to wipe and reinstall. Just need some advice before I get all upgrade happy.

thanks

10.4.11 is supposed to the the best version of MacOs X. It evidentally inherits a few of the qualities of Leopard, so I am lead to believe.

Then again, can 10.4.11 (even) use Quicktime 7.5.x?

10.4.11 / QT 7.5 / FCS2 (FCP 6.0.4) = rock solid on my PPC Quad.

10.5.4 / QT 7.5 / FCS2 (FCP 6.0.4) = rock solid on my intel Macbook Pro

I'm on 10.4.11, QT 7.5 and FCP 6.0.4 too. All good on my octocore Mac Pro.

Thanks for the suggestions. my macbook pro is from last year so its an intel duo and I'm not upgrading to 10.5 unless there's a really good reason===like supreme stability.

does anyone know if there is a COMBO 10.4.11 update?

Yes, there is a Combo 10.4.11 updater on the Apple web site.

Concerning Leopard. It's the latest toy and has some user improvements such as icons that actually show what the content of the file is like in a thumbnail and many more goodies to discover.

The more I use Leopard, the more I like it.

Leopard ROCKS. I use my MBP more than my PPC Quad just because I love the software. It's actually zippier than the Quad and soooooo slick.

I totally agree with Joey. Lots of features, like when you preview a clip in finder, you hit spacebar. Much faster. As well as time machine for back ups.

I usually use them on MacPros, though (along with FCS 2). FCS 2 on Leopard on a G5 seems a bit laggier after a while (or it could have been the mac), FCS 2 on Leopard on an Octo is unbeatable, FCS 2 on Tiger on a G5 seems to work pretty well (though rendering (esp to prores) is doggone slow compared to an octo). That's my opinion though. Haven't really managed to run proper comparisons between the set ups.

I'm hating Leopard so far...because I don't use the sidebar (I turn it off in Tiger) and I hate the "Computer" feature!

Maybe I'll grow into it. In a year or two, until "OS10.6 Pussy Galore" comes out.

It seems that it's going to be called "Snow Leopard". (I wonder when "Tabby" is going to come out).

What's the computer feature? I like the spacebar to preview audio clips though- I use that to search for music in the music library.

Is that a 16:9 cat forced into a 4:3 basket?

Yup. It's now in the FAQ. Choose your favourite Tiger.
