...on my Mac Pro (2 x3 GHz quad Xeon) The bundled Motion update installed fine. I'm currently running FCP 6.0.2

Are you letting the Software Updater do this for you?

There may be a Pro Apps updater in the mix that is causing this.

OK! What else have you tried? Is there even a 6.0.4 FCP listed in the Software Updates list?

I am assuming not. Not sure what to mention next? Any other clues?
