This was my first SuperMeet and yes Crazy, amazing, informative, fun, exciting!

The Venue was amazing, the setup went fairly smoothly, the food was excellent, the sponsors had excellent offerings and the European FCP users were sooo cool and they really entered the spirit of it - although we learned a bit late on that a Raffle is called a Lotterij (Lottery).

The best thing for me is that I have met some of the most lovely and downright funny people ever.

First up - Dan Berube (Bear~Ruby) or "Obi-wan-berube" as I like to call him. Dan is co-producer of the SuperMeet with our own Mikey and head cutter of the Boston FCPUG - he is just brilliant with a 720° sense of humor that will spin your head round like a spinny thing spinning faster than a large hadron collider... and of course his wife Katy who's lovely.

Ramy Katrib - founder of [www.DigitalFilm.com] is what many Europeans would call Super super cool, Ramy is such a creative, intelligent and enthusiastic guy that also manages to exude California "relax" in any situation - think surfer dude with PHD...

Rick Young from [www.macvideo.tv] has very similar sense of humor to me (I think we freaked out a couple of Canadians by accident...) this guy works so hard and was probably shooting IBC this morning whilst I was recovering from "Operation SuperMeet-clean-up"!

Mike from [www.allaccesspasses.com] is a wicked guy - if he hasn't done the stand-up comedy circuit then an agent should get in touch cus he kept me laughing constantly.

Jon Schilling, Jared Picune and Jeff from [www.CalDigit.com] - such friendly guys and really fun to hang out with. We nearly all died together on a canal cruise with a pilot that run us straight into a wall!

I also met most of the guys and gals from Blackmagic Design and finally got to meet Martin Baker from [www.digital-heaven.co.uk] our very own Andreas Kiel - love the 360° camera Andreas!

Last but certainly not least - Michael Horton - I won't say too much in case he gets all shy but man you rocked! The crowd loved ya mate and you have managed to pull off what some people said would be a failure...

...Oh how wrong they were! ROLL ON NEXT YEAR!

So a big THANK YOU to Mike & Dan for arranging it both from myself and all those users that I spoke to post event that conveyed their absolute and most awesome enjoyment of the whole event.

There were lots lots more people which I haven't mentioned here; users, contributors and sponsors alike - all of whom really made the show a success.

One of the most exciting things is that Paul from Apple announced a new version of Final Cut Pro 6 at the SuperMeet! As far as I gather it will be a point update and free to existing FCP 6 users which will allow Native RED 4K footage to be edited on a 2K timeline. Exciting!

There is so much more to tell but I need to get out and see more of the Dam and IBC whilst I'm here and the weather is good.

I'm sure Mike, Andreas and myself will update more very soon!

Thanks for posting that Ben. Having a great time here in the Dam. Such a beautiful place and such great people. The crowd was among the best we have ever had. The show might of been better if we had less pitches and more show but that is the compromise one has to make if we want to put on events like this. So we learn from what doesn't work and make what does work better next year. Love this country and having so much fun with all the folks here

Isn't clear from their web site...

Sure was fun!

For the Dutch it was a surprise to have a Jerry Springer and Dom Deluise lookalike on stage at the same time.

Michael made a huge effort to make me look good, thanks for that!

(oh, and the proper word is 'loterij' (with just one 't'))

Just arrived a few hours ago back from Supermeet (and Amsterdam).

It was really great to meet a lot of people face to face after all this years on the lists.

And Ben - the shirts ar really cool. I gave away one of mine and this guy said this shirt is even a bigger price for him than any one the big xxxx USD/Euro "raffle" prices he could have won.

Again thanks Mike, Ben and all the others who organized the event - this was great!!!!! - and a great success. It was the first event of that kind ever organized in Europe - and 'another' again, really amazing.

The fun part for me was to see how some kind of US show/event culture and non US event culture came together - Mike you had been a perfect moderator. I had invited some people from german production companies - they loved you as well. Maybe you'll get your own show over here smiling smiley

I'll put together some 360 degree stills at the weekend when I've retrieved all the material I did record (it's about 3h of 3600x1800 px stills at 3fps)

Andreas

1st P.S.
Bouke is right with 'loterij' if the raffle is especially thought for dutch people, otherwise 'lottery' is proper english and would be properly understood by most of the people who would like to attend the event because of the great wins they can get.

2nd P.S.
Mike I tried to reach you on your UK phone today (meanwhile yesterday) - no chance. Go and buy an 9.95 EURO mobile at the AH supermarket with a 10 Euro prepaid card next yearsmiling smiley

Ello everybody

Supermeet was seriousely tuff. Michael! you´re a great Comedian, i love your (somehow sarcastic) Humor, you should be in a Movie.

Just a question Michael. Did'nt you said somewhen during the show "this soundguy makes me hot"?

However. I really apprecciate that the show was very well organized - ok, the catering guys seemed a bit confused with their system, but hey, everyone got their beers somehow.

All the information during the show was very compressed due tu the small amount of time. I believe Thomson GVs "Advert Campaign" was a little, ehmm... ok, cancel that.

Where the heck have been the real Tips and Tricks? Seriously those Tips were a joke and there haven´t been any Tricks. However, something must have gone bad.

Now comes the fun part. Who the hell was that Apple Guy? Did they sent in a Wrestling Hero so that anybody will be afraid to ask "schtoopid" questions about the future of FCS X?
I loughed my butt off as there have been sound problems in the beginning of the Apple "show" and Michael tried to build the bridge with a few questions about feature request, and magically exactly that moment the sound came back immediately...

I were really disappointed about Apple's output at the supermeet. there would have been so much questions and complaints about serious bugs and why apple is not willed to listen to their customers nor they will not build a bigger beta-testing group before releasing any of their stuff in the future.
It seems to me that we have more than over 1 Million different configurations all over the world and most problems with FCS occure to a lot of the same people. see all the forums worldwide.

I belive that there are many, many Apple lovers (or slaves) with a humbled heart and devotion to their products, whatever apple screws up, they´re still on apples side.
This is too crazy for me and i do not accept Apple ignorant policy any longer.

Just to wrap it up. Apple should better take care of many other companies which are developing crazy good and affordable software (and Hardware too).
If Apple really think that they can handle anything else besides their BS Itouch, Phone Crap, and when they really think that their groundbreaking new developments (maybe it´s the iCar, but i rather believe it´ll be Gestures) will make us ProApps users more happier - then i belive it will not.

And now one for the road: take care of Avid Technology, Inc., trust me, they are going mad to get back on top...

Cheers, Rico

Howdy, all!

Regarding Martin Baker's announcement, here it is, straight from him:

> We previewed a new application (still in development) called Loader. In a nutshell it makes importing media from iTunes or the Finder easier than ever by automatically copying it to a media folder that you choose for each project. It will also convert mp3, aac, caf and CD tracks to a 48K aif file at the same time. Once the copy is complete, then the file appears in the FCP project that you chose.

> If you keep an eye on our home page then there should be a link through to some images and explanation very soon.

This is really cool. My partner Daniel Berube did a QT VR of the venue we used for the SuperMeet. (The Gashouder) Look at it here:

it was taken 2 hours before the doors opened.

That guy staring at his Macbook Pro is Ben King. I'm sure he is surfing porn sites given his studious gaze.
