clip disappearancePosted by davko
Clips in my project are suddenly vanishing mysteriously, even when I'm working elsewhere in the timeline. Scrubbing the area where one exisited sometimes indicates a "phantom" clip is still there, but playing the sequence at regular speed produces nothing.
Do I need to trash my preferences AGAIN? It's only been a few weeks. Or is this indicative of something else?
Is the clip still in the timeline? Or is it an offline clip or it just vanished from the timeline?

Okay, this is getting scary. I open the project, and the clip in question shows up in the timeline. But as soon as I click on it -- or anything else for that matter -- it disappears without a trace. Now I can't even get it to scrub.
Luckily, by not saving the project, I can retrieve its timeline position (in "phantom" mode) each time I launch. Making a copy of the sequence doesn't help. I've never had any problems with this clip previously. The master clip still shows up in the browser, so I don't appear to have deleted it.
As this seems to be an isolated problem (involving one piece of film in one area), I've simply replaced it and moved on. Questions:
- Is it possible to delete a clip and have a "ghost" of it reappear on start-up? - I messed around with capture scratch settings just before all this happened, in order to direct future captures to another drive. This wouldn't affect any existing connections to media, would it?

> didn't want. Would this affect EXISTING media in any way It would if you had captured to that second drive, then taken it offline. Otherwise, Scratch Disk settings have no effect on anything except clips about to be captured. ![]() www.derekmok.com
