iMac 24" vs Tower Mac ProPosted by rolo enry
experts What do you think? I have a doubt for semi-pro edition. I find a good election choosing an iMac 24 (the best) vs. Mac-Pro Tower, because its cheaper and I believe could be a good perfomance for an semi-pro editon. (I save money in Monitor and hardware too). I saw in the shop a big iMac, with a good screen (24" and core 2 -intel, 3,06 GHz, and was a surprise, I supouse would be a good election to edit . Do you think I am loosing to much choosing an iMac24? thank for help. Rolo

Joe. You misunderstand. He is asking if an iMac is fine for using FCP in. Semi-professional manner. Or does he need a mac pro?
The iMac will be fine. www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
The LAFCPUG Market (where this post was moved from) is for buying & selling, no? Doesn't everyone else asking for purchasing ADVICE come into the Café with an OT post? Why do I misunderstand? And if I misunderstood...why was it moved? C'mon Shane.
When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.
I don't recall seeing people asking for advice on what computer they should buy in the Market...only "I am selling BLANK" and "I would like to buy BLANK." People asking for advice on what to buy has always been in here...I thought.

i'm cutting my second feature on an iMac.
i love them EXCEPT for the glossy screen! i have mine hooked up to a very affordable 17" monitor that i use for my Bins, etc they are perfectly fine machines for off-line editing, as long as you can get by with FW dives. external monitoring is limited too, but it all depends on what sort of work you see yourself doing. nick
