FCP6.0.5 project file
Here's a 6.0.5 project file Nick if you want to see if it will open in 6.0.4. All the best, Tom

Project file created in FCP6.0.5
Here's another that someone with 6.0.4 might want to test to see if it opens. Seems weird to me that we have to do this and that Apple can't say in its release notes what the behavior is.
Well after initial excitement I'm not as happy with this release as I thought I would be.
Of course, bug fixes and general improvements are cool, but I thought there was going to be Native Panasonic P2 and AVCHD editing rather than simply better support for cameras whilst still transcoding to ProRes! Come on Apple! For crying out loud Adobe have it in Premiere Pro!!! For instant answers to more than one hundred common FCP questions, check out the LAFCPUG FAQ Wiki here : [www.lafcpug.org]
Nowhere in the release did it mention NATIVE support for anything. It mentions ADDED support for Metadata. Metadata in P2 is pretty major, and the main reason I suggest MXF4QT. If FCP now has metadata import functions, then that is huge
I suspect the MAJOR stuff wont happen until FCP 7 and Snow Leopard... www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
Why would you want to edit AVCHD natively? It's a GOP format, just like HDV, and like HDV the first thing we'll all hear after Apple adds native support for that codec is "Why does exporting take so long? Why does my footage degrade after I edit? Waaaaa!" And we'll all reply "Put on your big-boy pants and transcode to ProRes!"
The way I see it, Apple saved us a step.
Hope you enjoy the new RED support, especially in Color!

Space... and time... Using XDCAM (HD or EX) or HDV (spit) footage I often cut a rough with the native CODEC saving space then Media Manage Transcode the Master Sequence to ProRes or another CODEC for FX, Grade et al. It saves time - perfect if you are working on site or on a quick turnaround. We already have XDCAM, HDV, etc so why not? Add to that native AVC Intra in both the 100 full-raster and 50Mbps versions... surely the Intel Macs are fast enough to decode AVC Intra on the fly? Yes RED support is very cool! P2 in both the DVCPRO HD and AVCIntra codecs are edited natively on an Avid...but that is because Avid captures its OWN footage as MXF...so the footage is already in the Avid's preferred format.
Thus another reason to like Avid... www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
...and Premiere Pro CS4 from what I am told. You can have Avid. The workflow just sux to high heaven for our short form stuff (3 minutes & under - grafix intensive) and they crash waaaaaay too much. As a matter of fact, in about 2 weeks, if you stand just outside the lobby of the EA Sports building in Orlando, Florida and look straight up, you just might see 4 - PC Avids fly off the roof down to your general vacinity. I suggested we make a keg party out of it. Bring a hard hat When life gives you dilemmas...make dilemmanade.

Almost nothing that comes out is universal binary anymore these days. www.strypesinpost.com
Hey, I'm waiting too... for snow leopard and SEVEN, (or maybe Andreas's plug to let us all back in).

There's some of my code in there for sure, but it's mostly Rob's and Craig's work. Team effort, shall we say?
I did this little movie with the new workflow native into FCP and then through Color: [www.nattress.com] Graeme Michael Horton Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Bet ya Graeme wrote this
