Dubbing Timecode w/ HVR-V1U iLink

Hi,
I have 2 HVR-V1U cameras and need to dub the tapes I shot this weekend.
I've connected the iLink cable and the video and audio transfer fine, but the TimeCode from the source camera to the record camera does not. The record camera always defaults to the preset timecode even if the "TC Make" is set to "Regenerate."
This defeats the purpose of a backup tape if the time code is not the same as the master.

I've been through the menu 20 times and still can't find the solution. Am I missing a setting or is it just not possible to dub the TC from one camera to the other?

If the V1U is like 99% of prosumer cameras it can't take external TC.
