converting 25p to 24pPosted by gmc205
Hi, i have a movie 1080i 50 (1440x1080, 25fps) that i need to convert to 1280x720 24p (h.264) so I can upload it to Vimeo. The size change and the codec change doesnt worry me its just the whole framerate change im not sure about and compressor didnt have a preset for it although it did have a preset for XDCAM 24p. You see, i can easily output a version that is 1280x720 25p but when i upload this to vimeo and they change it to flash movie which is 24p wont that make my video look a bit drop framey ? If anyone has any advice Id really appreciate it.
Cheers, Gavin

Exporting it in Final Cut isn't the same as conforming it in Cinema Tools. When you conform in CT, you are effectively slowing down the video slightly (by about 4%), which will make the video longer. The change in speed isn't usually noticeable, and as you won't be working with interpolated or dropped frames, the movement will be just as smooth, and the quality of the video will be identical to your initial source video. You can then compress that with Compressor or DVkitchen to upload to Vimeo.

Film Effects does very nice deinterlacing on the timeline in FCP, along with conversion of 60i to 24p look (with 3:2 pulldown added back in for compatibility) and some very nice colouring / tonal effects on your videos, along with fixing chroma subsampling issues.
CT is great for speeding up or slowing down your movie 4% to conform from 25p to 24p or 24p to 25p, among other things. Graeme [www.nattress.com] - Plugins for FCP-X
I have tried Cinema tools to no avail. I select my clip in the browser and go to 'tools - conform 25 to 24' It come up with the error message that it cant find a clip with 25 fps to process which is just BS as every clip in my project is 25fps. I double checked every clip on the timeline from which i exported my movie and every clip was 25fps.
