Wacky Poster frames

I searched for this problem and found another thread started about it, but on one replied to it except me and it does not move to the top of the list.

So, I'm posting a new one.

When I put a merged clip in the viewer to select a poster frame, FCP does not thumbnail the frame I have my playhead on.

The set-up:

Mac Pro Octocore, 8 GB RAM running OS 10.5.6, FCS 2: FCP 6.0.5.

RED camera shot at 23.98fps. Audio recorded at 29.97fps (I was hired after shooting started - too late to stop this travesty) Not only was audio at a different frame rate, but the timecode is different from the camera's. Not just one different, but many differents, every day. Amateurs.

Master clips poster fine.

Merged clips pick a frame other than my selected frame in viewer.

1 clip picked a frame 5:15 after my playhead.

Another clip picked a frame 10:07 before the playhead.

What is going on?

are you using shift N to create the frame?

The thread is not about freeze frames. It's about poster frames.

I have not seen the problem, but it does not entirely surprise me. Nothing that happens with merged clips surprises me.

It's because of the external audio (no TC) - no chance to fix that other than exporting both video and audio with the same matching length.
