Blu Ray as an output option...

Anyone know how long of a movie you can squeeze onto a Blu Ray disc? We are planning a screening and buying a burner is a much cheaper option than renting an HDCAM deck (the project is DVCPROHD 1080) since the theater has Blu Ray also.

Thanks.

How long do you want it? Have you considered simply bringing a laptop and playing out an H.264 instead? If they have Blu-Ray they probably have a projector that accepts DVI or HDMI too...

Haven't burned one myself yet, but:

Wikipedia
Discs encoded in MPEG-2 video typically limit content producers to around two hours of high-definition content on a single-layer (25 GB) BD-ROM. The more advanced video codecs (VC-1 and MPEG-4 AVC) typically achieve a video runtime twice that of MPEG-2, with comparable quality.

The burner may not be as important as the software you choose to encode with. Not sure if the cheaper alternatives like Toast 10 offer you the MPEG options. Alternately, you could hook up a Mac as suggested and burn an HD (H.264) disc in DVDSpro; only a Mac can read the resulting HD-DVD but at least it will be in HD.

It would not even be neccesary to make an HD-DVD. I was thinking H.264 1080p. that will play on any current Mac or PC in QuickTime player and look great.

The film is just under 2 hours (1:58)

Blu-ray dual layer has a capacity of 50GB, surely your 1080p movie output under 2 hours will fit into that right?
