External HD for I-Mac

I just recently purchased a one year old I-Mac with FCS2 installed from a friend and need to purchase an external drive for video capture. There seemed to be a lot of back and forth a couple of months ago about which manufacturer was better and which ones were but have stumble a little. Add to that the issues that have surfaced around certain drives.
I am editing in SD only at this time, but who knows, maybe someday soon maybe HD. Not necessarily looking at a raid system but it's not out of the question. Which drive enclosures should I be looking at? Thanx Barry

The G-Tech G-RAID 2 with FireWire 800 is my mini-framestore of choice.

just stay away from anything that says lacie, maxtor, mybook, buffalo (or anything you can get at your local computer store) and you'll be ok.

OWC, Gtech, caldigit, glyph are things to google or forum search...
