Cal Digit drive unable to capture footage

I am still having trouble using the CalDigit 2TB Drive-My Computer is a 2005 Power Mac G5, Dual 2.3 GHz, operating system is 10.4. I am editing with FCP 5.0 Academic.
I turned on the Turbo mode as tech support recommneded and installed a PCI FW800 port card which reads the drive just fine but the CalDigit drive is still unable to capture the footage. I tested different tapes on the WesternDigitalMyBook hard drive (500GB) I have, and it captures the footage without a problem.

I have also tried different configurations - hooking up the CalDigit to the PCI card, and the camera deck to the computer and vice versa but the capturing is always interrupted, by dropped frames, which is not a problem with my lesser WesternMyBook drive.

Could it be that the CalDigit drive of 2TB is meant for the very new Macs only via e-sata, which I don't have on my computer.

Thank you,

Codri

Something is definitely not right. You referred to using a "camera deck," and that makes me think you're capturing over Firewire. That usually means either DV or HDV, and those formats are both a bandwidth-sipping 25 megabits per second. The hard drive in my old iPod could sustain 25 megabits per second. Well, probably. Point is, you're not pushing that drive's capabilities.

Check your system log for I/O errors by opening up the Console utility. It's possible either the drive mechanism itself or the interface is experiencing some kind of malfunction that's screwing you up.

I'd reformat the CalDigit drive. I do this with all hard drives I buy, just in case.

And call CalDigit...they have world class Tech support.
