Avid For Final Cut EditorPosted by asherlewis
I was wondering if anyone could suggest an Avid course for a Final Cut Editor.
I have worked with FCP for 5 years and have only worked with FCP and am looking to diversify. I live in West Hollywood, and curious if anyone knows of any courses (ideally 1 weekend) in the Burbank and or surrounding areas. Cheers!
I got my chops at Video Symphony. Great school. Also taught there, so I may be biased.

I taught myself the Avid along with The Avid Handbook. I was a Motion Graphics Designer at an Ad Agency and showed interest in filling in on a graveyard shift for overflow commercial spot editing. I figured it out REAL FAST with The Avid Handbook. Here's the latest version (Steven Bayes, the author, is now on the FCP Dev Team ):

Well, I started on Avid so this isn't fair. But I too went to Video Symphony and liked it. But then I also know the teacher at Moviola and he is one knowledgeable dude. Unstumpable at the GURU table (Andrew Balis).
Want some basics? Here is a blog entry that helps. And since Avid now has a 14 day free trial, you can do a lot on your own AFTER you take the class. [provideocoalition.com] www.shanerosseditor.com Listen to THE EDIT BAY Podcast on iTunes [itunes.apple.com]
maybe you could work your way backward with this book - it's called AVID for Final Cut Editors - but I don't know, maybe if you read it backwards and upside down - like Hebrew - it will get you where you want to go?

Thanks everybody for all the info in this thread. I'm finally getting down to seriously learning AVID and all the advice is very helpful.
FYI, the MC4 trial is now 30 days, as opposed to 14, which will be nice. - Justin Barham -
