Chatting with Matt Davis today, we realised that saying "Pro Res Four Four Four Four" is a little unwieldy (as is saying "doubleyou doubleyou doubleyou"
...

"ProRes 444" would just be ProRes 4444 without an alpha channel on it.
ProRes 4444 is gonna be the replacement for the ancient and much-maligned Animation format. It's not totally lossless, like Animation is, but it's lossless enough in RGB/YUV, and the alpha channel, if present, is stored lossless, so your keys remain clean. What's more, you can have up to 12 bits of precision in RGB/YUV (from 8 bits of RGB only in Animation) and your alpha channel is 16 bits (again, up from 8).
There will be very little reason ever to use Animation again.

Me 'n my boys call it "Pro Res Quad".
