And AIC sucks. No TIMECODE support, which is absolutely crucial. So if you have a G5, and don't want to work HDV native, and can't use ProREs...then capture HDV as DVCPRO HD. You will need an HD capture device to do this...

I would try ProRes LT. It takes less space than ProRes 422 and looks really good.

I dunno, to my eyes ProRes proxy looks pretty good. Wouldn't want to finish with it but compared to a lot of the older 'finishing' codecs we once used in QT Player it's pretty sharp and clean.

I agree. Prores proxy is scary good. Have to squint hard.

Proxy isn't bad, but for a good sweet spot, LT does the job!
