I started right, then something happened...

I got some tapes shot anamorphically, I imported them into FCP correctly,

HEre is it



1) Correct Footage


2) settings


Settings in IDVD, it is 16:9
3)

encoding... burning .... it takes 2.5 hrs

I watched in my 4.3 TV, expecting to see the letterboxing (a black bar on top, a black bar on the bottom)

But.... guess what........
People looks normal, that is not stretch or squeezed.....
but I don see the black bars.
it looks like 16.9 pan-scan....

how can I fix it ?????
pleaseeee help

You don't need black bars. If it is 16:9 and you have it correct, the image should display in a widescreen shape without bars at the top and bottom or sides. Let go of the concept that black bars are good. Black bars just mean you are displaying 16:9 on a 4:3 television. Or you have something wrong.

ankawa, have you checked your tv aspect / zoom settings?
no, hang on... 4/3 TVs don't have those..
try another tv?

i watched it in a 4.3 TV, i must have the black bars......

I changed the QT file by doing this:

if you're going to iDVD, first open the file in QuickTime player,


1- Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
2- In the Properties window, click Video Track in the Name column.
3- Click the Visual Settings button.
4- Deselect the checkbox for Preserve Aspect Ratio.
5- Change the Scaled Size:
For NTSC, enter 853 x 480.
For PAL, enter 1024 x 576.
Now the movie should be displayed at a 16:9 aspect ratio.

6- Choose File > Save to save the movie.

I burned a new DVD and guess what..... Not It looks worst....
it looks like if i did a zoom.... I tried in a 4.3 TV

why this is so complicated

The problem might be with your DVD player. It might be forcing a Zoom display to the TV. What happens when you open the DVD on your Mac?

Because you continue to insist on using iDVD, despite having been told more than once that you should be using DVD Studio Pro for this.

Yup I second that...

Don't use iDVD... Thats for Children and Grandparents to knock out home videos from iMovie NOT for someone using the ProApps for which DVD Studio Pro is supplied.

Anyone want to argue with me on that will have to arm-wrestle me first and I've been working out! HA!

GRAB doesnt work while DVD player is playing a movie, it looks 4.3 but the menu looks 16.9
I played my movie in a Sony Widescreen TV and looks good, it fills the whole TV. No squeez people.

There are wonderful templates for DVD Studio Pro out there. Just google.

Why not? How are you trying to connect it?

Right click the Intro and make it First Play. Then go to the inspector and select Menu1 from the end jump menu.

PS: Do you realize that your Menu2 is 4:3, not 16:9 like the rest of your DVD?

I went to my local B&N and they dont have in stock and cant order the DVD STudio Pro Book what a shame


I selected the INTRO_OK then Menu1 and click Connect (on the right side)...
I tried what you said... and It WorkED
I also fixed the aspect ratio of Menu2

I hope you realise the manual for DVD SP will tell you pretty much everything you need to know...

well, I inserted a black DVD, and clicked on BURN,,,,, after a few minutes I got the following message:

The message couldn't be clearer. How much material are you trying to fit onto one DVD, exactly?

your encoder settings are too high.
so the final mpeg, plus the audio and whatever graphics are used, add up to more than the DVD can hold.

how are you encoding to mpeg?
if it's in DVDSP, the controls for this are in the preferences,
but to be honest, i wouldn't know what to recommend.

this is because i use Compressor to encode,
and it has very simple presets.

also compressor will compress the audio (the AAC AC3 compressor setting is included in the presets)
and i'm not sure DVDSP does that.

there's a "Disk Meter" top right of the DVSP interface that shows you how much media you're trying to get onto the DVD.
and watch out, a 4.7 GB DVD disc will actually hold only 4.37 gigabytes

that's explained in the DVDSP help file in a chapter called "Making Sure your COntent Will Fit",
which you should read.

there'll come a time when the happy couple will not want to watch thru the whole thing just to see cousin jimmy fall in the pool.

when I used IDVD to make this same DVD, iDVD didn't comply about that much material. iDVD just make it fit in a single layer DVD.

I guess I need to send it to Compressor first.....

I didnt send my material to compressor.....

yes i included chapters, it is under MENU2.
I have 3 main chapters:
House
Ceremony
Reception
(I also did chapters every 10 minutes)
it is a Sweet 16 event.
